Inspirational Images: Illamasqua - Art of Darkness A/W 2010

Illamasqua just keep bringing something new to the make up world! Fighting against everything average, Illamasqua embrace change, innovation and all things unusual. They are not out to cater for the Barbie dolls of society, but more those willing to try something new and let out their fierce alter ego.

..Lured by the promise of immortality, a host of fantastical beings try their hand at creating the ever-elusive Elixir of Life. The resulting potions dazzle the eye and ensnare the senses, a beautiful array of jewel-like substances. They may not deny mortality, but they do make the theatre of life a more colourful stage on which to play.

It’s a melting pot of individuals, where ideas are exchanged, and new ones created. A surreal gathering from which the guests might never awake. Which is why this night can never end, and the game must be played for eternity.

It's like a very modernised fantasy film mixed with sprinklings of gypsies, fairies and circus aesthetics and a huge splash of magic. The collection is highly inspired by films such as Legend, Willow and Labyrinth. It was based on mythology and alchemy. I love the concept. I think my favourite is the rather androgynous character dressed in white. It has that kind of weird but wise look to it. I love the scaly effect used on the skin. I also love how Alex uses out of the ordinary lip colours like green and blue. It is definitely becoming more of a trend these days.

I am still in favour of their autumn/winter collections more - such as Dystopia, one of my Illamasqua favourites. I'm not sure why but Sirens and Body Electrics just didn't wow me as much? I think this could be because Sirens was very sun kissed and emphasising on gold/bronze, and Body Electrics was slightly tamer than the full on qualities of Dystopia. But they need to cater for everybody, and the summer season too.
