Body painting is a form of body art, the most ancient form of art. It's temporary unlike tattoo. I like the modern fine body painting like those swimsuit models looking like they are wearing bikinis when they are completely nude under the paint. Veruschka was like a pioneer, in 1960, her images in the book Transfigurations with photographer Holger Trulzsch have frequently been emulated.
But I like the traditional body painting more because I find it more meaningful. It existed in all tribal cultures and it still survives in this ancient form among indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand and parts of Africa. They use clay and other natural pigments.
