The first is their prelim artwork and the second with the dinosaurs and diamond is their final #1 winning artwork. I love these guys but I in all honesty thought the diamond was a bit of a retaliatory statement on their old company and a bit of a shameless plug for their new makeup sponsors. But we all have and get to make our own statements as artists. Just seems that as your first big win this maybe isn't in the long run the statement you'd want to make. But that's me. No one can deny that their artwork was amazing, as were so many. I'll post more soon.

There is however, one event that unites the family, and that is face painting. Children love getting their faces painted, and parents readily whip out their cameras delightfully snapping pictures of their loved ones under the coats of paints. There is endless joy in face painting because of the creativity involved and the kids often picked different face painting pictures depending on various phases of their growing stage.

Be it a Children's birthday party, a school carnival or a community event, the face painting booth, if any, will almost always be the hottest favorite. I often find long queues forming in such face painting booths as Children wait eagerly to have their faces and even parts of their bodies painted. They will talk with other kids about their favorite face designs and the color that would go with it. Needless to say, most boys prefer animals like Tiger and Dinosaur, or Super heroes such as Spiderman and Batman, while the girls love the butterflies and flowers.

Alright, we know the clown, the cat and the cupcakes are all-time favorites. Where do you get more inspiration of interesting face painting examples? There are really endless sources if you keep your mind constantly active for new ideas. Personally, I like the Children's art books or story books best. This is because kids relate best when they see something they are familiar with and it often strike a chord immediately.

For the same reason, I like to watch cartoon movies with my kids. When the latest cartoon movie hits the cinemas, it is almost like a family routine that we would go watch it together. Instantly, a new conversation topic arise within the family and my kids and I often talk about it weeks after the movie treat. If I know I will be engaged in a face painting session in that season, I will take some time to download some great pictures from the movie's website and practice painting on some pictures with a slice of creativity of my own and create a template of it for my next painting session

It was around July or August of 2009 when I got a call from a fellow bodypainter named Mark Reid. I had met Mark earlier in the year at the Face And Body Art International Convention in Orlando and we hit it off pretty good. He called to see if I would be available to participate in the first-ever U.S. Bodypainting Competition as a professional instructor. He explained that he and Pam Trent from New Mexico were organizing the New Mexico Bodypainting Festival and that I would be joined by several other instructors including my friend Pashur. In all honesty, I couldn't tell if this was a pipe dream he was shooting for or something that really would come to fruition. I said that I obviously wasn't booked for anything else. In fact, I didn't even have a 2009 calendar to write down any bookings over a year away. I said, "Sure, count me in."

I had my doubts as the year passed that this project may or may not even happen. There would be a glimmer of hope like the launching of the website and then silence for months at a time. Even as of a month before the event, I was hearing that the participants were not as many as had been hoped for and there seemed to be some disorganization as to my role in the event. I'll even admit that I had thoughts of pulling out, but I really wanted to stay committed to the project and to keep my word to Mark and Pam. Once I arrived at the hotel, all of my fears were alleviated and it turned out to be an incredible experience.

It was the night before the event and the organizers and instructors gathered in Mark Reid's room for a champagne toast. The rooms were top notch at the Albuquerque Embassy Suites and the welcome comp was a granite tray of cake and chocolate covered cherries. The group consisted of Mark and Pam, Pashur, Erika Harrison (the queen of henna), and photographer Rich Johnson and his girlfriend. Pam seemed overly emotional and gave us all a heart-felt thanks for helping her achieve this dream that she had been hoping for for a long time. We then had a great time relaying stories and catching up with each other. Then it was off to bed to prepare for the weekend's festivities.
